A keloid is an enlarged scar that is usually hard and projects above the skin surface. There is no known cause and will never become malignant. Dark-skinned individuals form keloids more easily than people who are fair-skinned. Keloids may develop on any part of the body; however, the central chest and upper back are especially prone to keloid formation.
Treatment Options: Cortisone injections can often be effective, surgical removal, cryotherapy (freezing) or pressure treatment or gel pads.
