A cyst is a closed sac that contains a “pasty” or “cheesy” substance that often has a foul odor often appearing on the scalp, face, ears, back or groin area. Cysts are usually harmless, slow-growing bumps under the skin. Occasionally, infections may occur. Symptoms that may indicate infection include: redness, tenderness, warmth and grayish white foul smelling material draining from the bump.
Treatment Options: Most often disappear however in some cases the cyst may require incise/drain to relieve the pressure, injection of a steroid medication or oral medication.
