Keratosis Pilaris
Home Keratosis Pilaris

Keratosis Pilaris (KP) is common and a harmless skin disorder. It occurs because as the skin renews itself, old skin cells in the hair follicles get stuck which forms a scaly plug creating rough bumps on the skin surface. The bumps usually appear on the upper arms and thighs but may appear on the cheeks, back and buttocks. The bumps do not itch or hurt and most often worse during winter months when skin becomes dry. KP mostly affects children and adolescents which is inherited and runs in families.

Treatment Options: While there is no cure for KP there are effective treatments to manage the care of the infected skin. The main objective is to keep the skin clean and moisturized appropriately. Emollients and moisturizers are often used to relieve the symptoms.
