XTRAC® Excimer Laser

XTRAC® Excimer Laser has been clinically proven to be a highly effective treatment for patients suffering from Psoriasis and Vitiligo. The treatments are quick, easy, painless and covered by most major insurance companies. Patients can often obtain relief from itching and dry lesions in six to ten brief sessions with remissions expected to last for months. This laser is also FDA approved for treatment of vitiligo. XTRAC® can stimulate the repigmentation of the skin often requiring 30 treatments or less.

Laser Procedure:

The XTRAC® Laser concentrates a light on the active psoriasis skin plaques with high-exposure doses necessary for rapid clearing without risk of damage to healthy skin. Initially, the skin may be tested to determine the optimal dosage level and then a hand-piece is moved over the affected area, applying laser light. The treatment sessions last 5-15 minutes depending on the amount of skin involved. You may experience feelings of warmth, but most patients do not experience discomfort during the procedure.

Side effects:

Some patients may experience mild itching or redness within the first few days. A sunburn type of reaction is also possible in the areas treated.

Pulsed Dye Laser (V-Beam)

The Pulsed Dye Laser (V-Beam) delivers intense but gentle pulses of light into selectively targeted areas of the skin. This laser is used to lighten or remove unwanted or abnormal blood vessels in the skin. The pulsed dye laser may be indicated for vascular lesions, broken blood vessels and generalized facial redness caused by rosacea.

Facial veins, scars, rosacea, red bumps and birthmarks can all be treated using Vbeam r laser treatments with favorable results and no damage to the surrounding skin. The results of laser therapy vary on the condition that is being treated and the number of treatments required for clearance. There is no downtime however the treated area will show a reddish/bruised discoloration with swelling for usually no more than 48 hours after treatment.

Procedure:

Some patients feel a warm snapping sensation during the treatment however a cooling mist is emitted to increase comfort during the treatment and reduce redness. Protective eyewear will be worn during the laser treatment. The laser is calibrated and parameters are set based on individual variables such as specific condition.

Post- Op Care Instructions:

  • Avoid sun exposure and use a sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher.
  • Avoid exercise for approximately 24 hours after procedure.
  • Tylenol® and ice packs may be used for swelling, bruising or discomfort.

Side effects:

Some patients may experience mild swelling and redness. Occasionally purpura, laser bruise, may occur however will disappear in three to five days.

Intense Pulsed Light Treatment (IPL)

The intense pulsed light treatment, or IPL, has been FDA approved for skin rejuvenation of vascular and pigmented abnormalities. This laser improves overall skin tone, redness from Rosacea, repair sun-damaged skin or reduce pigmentation changes associated with aging. The intense light is delivered to the deep parts of the skin without damaging the surface layer of the skin giving the skin a smooth appearance.

Procedure:

The Candela Ellipse I2PL laser treatment is a series of light pulses that are directed to the specific area to be treated which is adjusted based on the individual skin color and type. Each treatment takes about 15 to 30 minutes with mild discomfort, however redness and swelling may occur for a few hours after treatment. The number of treatments necessary depends on the condition being treated and severity. The recommended number of treatments is 4 to 6 spaced three weeks apart.

Post- Instructions to minimize the chance of scarring:

  • Avoid exercise day of treatment
  • Apply ice packs and take Tylenol® for itching, burning, stinging or swelling which is common for a few hours.
  • Gently wash the treated site daily using your fingertips and using mild soap. Avoid scrubbing.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure to the treated areas for a few weeks after the treatment and use an SPF 30 sun screen or higher is recommended.

Side effects:

Some patients may experience swelling, blistering, scab formation and temporary pigment changes. Permanent pigment changes and scarring rarely occur.
