A small brownish spot (of the pigment melanin) that is darker than the surrounding skin. These spots are more common among caucasians, especially those with fair skin. Lentigines appear on parts of the body that heavily exposed to sun. The best way to prevent lentigines is to stay out of the sun, apply sunscreen (SPF 30) when outdoors and avoid the use of tanning beds.
Treatment Options: Retinoid and bleaching creams, cryotherapy (freezing) and laser surgery.
