Lichen Planus (LP) is non-contagious, non-infectious, inflammatory skin disorder involving the skin and mucous membranes. Rarely, it may affect the hair and nails. The cause is unknown however medications treating high blood pressure, heart disease and arthritis can cause lichen planus-type rashes and it is rarely associated with hepatitis. The reaction goes away when the medication is discontinued and generally most cases of LP go away within 1-2 years.

Treatment Options: While there is no cure for Lichen Planus, there are effective treatments to manage the care of the infected skin such as antihistamines and corticosteroid creams to relieve the symptoms. Severe cases may require internal cortisone or specific form of ultraviolet light treatment.
